હું એક ડોક્ટર છું અને એક મંદિરની બહાર સેવા આપું છું. હંમેશાની જેમ જ આજે પણ ભિખારીઓને તપાસતો હતો… તપાસ કરાવી લેવા માટે, દવાઓ માટે હંમેશની જેમ જ ભિખારીઓની ગરદા ગરદી…. સહજપણે ધ્યાન ગયું એક ખૂણામાં, ત્યાં એક પત્થર પર એક બાપા બેસેલા દેખાણા.. ટટ્ટાર બેસવાનું, અણીદાર નાક અને સરળ, માંજરી આંખો, ડીલ પર સાદા પણ સ્વચ્છ કપડાં… ઘણા સમય સુધી હું ત્રાંસી નજરે જોતો હતો, આ “ભિખારી” તો નક્કી જ લાગતા નહોતા… ! સહજ જોવામાં આવ્યું, જમણા ગોઠણથી પગ નહોતો એમને, બાજુમાં જ કાખઘોડી ટેકે મુકેલી હતી… થોડીવાર પછી સહજ ધ્યાન ગયું, કોઈક કાંઈક દેતું હતું અને એ લેતા હતા… અરે ! તો તો મારૂં અનુમાન ખોટું ઠર્યું… ઉસ્તુકતા વધી એટલે એમની પાસે જવા લાગ્યો તો કોઈકે કીધું, ડોક્ટર ના જશો, ગાંડો છે એ ! ઉત્સુકતા સ્વસ્થ બેસવા દે એમ નહોતી એટલે ગયો જ,મને લાગ્યું મને જોઈને એ હાથ ફેલાવશે… પણ એમનો હાથ આગળ આવ્યો જ નહીં, ત્યાં પણ મારું અનુમાન ખોટું પડ્યું… મેં જ કીધું, બાપા કાંઈ તકલીફ?કાખઘોડી લઈ ,હળવેકથી ઉઠીને એ બોલ્યા, Good afternoon doctor…… I think I may have some eye problem in my right eye …. હું હાકોબાકો રહી ગય...

🔵એક ખુબ જ પ્રખ્યાત લેખિકા પોતાના સ્ટડી-રૂમમાં બેસીને પોતાના ભૂતકાળને વાગોળતી હતી. થોડી વાર પછી તેણે એક કોરો કાગળ અને કલમ લઇને લખવા માંડ્યું- . "મારું વીતેલું વર્ષ- - ગયા વર્ષે મારું ઓપરેશન થયું, અને મારું ગર્ભાશય કાઢી નાખવામાં આવ્યું, આ ઓપરેશનને કારણે મારે ઘણો વખત સુધી પથારીવશ રહેવું પડ્યું. - આ જ વર્ષે મારી ઉમર સાઈઠ વર્ષની થઇ જતા, મારે મારી માનીતી નોકરી છોડવી પડી. આ પ્રકાશન-કંપનીમાં મેં લગાતાર ત્રીસ વર્ષ ગાળ્યા હતા. - આ જ વર્ષે મારે મારા પિતાજીના મૃત્યુનો આઘાત પણ સહન કરવો પડ્યો, - અને આ જ વર્ષે મારો દીકરો એની મેડીકલની પરીક્ષામાં નાપાસ થયો, કારણ એનો કાર-અકસ્માત થયો હતો. હાથ-પગમાં પ્લાસ્ટર સાથે તેણે કેટલાયે દિવસો સુધી હોસ્પિટલમાં રહેવું પડ્યું હતું. અમારી કાર સાવ ખતમ જ થઇ ગયી, તે નુકસાન તો પાછું અલગ જ." અંતમાં આ લેખિકાએ લખ્યું - "હે ભગવાન, કેટલું ખરાબ વર્ષ વીત્યું ! 1. ઘણીવાર વર્ગખંડમાં જાઉં ત્યારે સામે રહેલી પચાસથી વધુ જીવંત આંખોને જોઉં અને થઇ આવે કે પ્રત્યેક આંખોનું કૂતુહલ છે, પ્રત્યેકના પ્રશ્ન અલગ છે, શું ચાલતું હશે એમના મનમાં? આજની એની સવાર કેવી હશે? કોઇક ચહેરો શાંત, કોઇક અજંપાગ્રસ્ત, કોઇકની આંખોમાં ઉજાગરો, કોઇકની આંખોમાં આનંદ અને ક્યાંક પીડા. આ સૌને એક કલાક મારે તો મારો વિષય ભણાવીને નીકળી જવાનું હોય છે, પણ મારે વર્ગમાંથી નીકળતી વખતે એક સંતોષ જોવો હોય છે દરેક આંખોમાં..! કારણકે આ મારા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ છે, જીવતી ચેતના. આ કોઇ મશીન નથી. કઇ રીતે લેક્ચર શરુ કરું એવું થઇ આવે ત્યારે, મનમાં ઉપનિષદનો મંત્ર ૐ સહનાવવતુ જપી લઉં છું, અને આંખ બંધ કરી મારા શિક્ષકોને યાદ કરી લઉં છું. બહુ મોટી જવાબદારી હોય છે, અમારા શિક્ષકો પર. ઇશ્વરે આપેલું સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ કાર્ય એટલે શિક્ષણકાર્ય. વેદ-આજ્ઞામાં માં-બાપ પછી આચાર્યને દેવ ગણવાની આજ્ઞા છે. આ કાર્યમાં અદ્ભૂત સંતોષ મળે છે, કેટલાય વિદ્યાર્થીઓ ફેમિલી મેમ્બર બની જાય છે, અને તમે જેને સૌથી વધારે તતડાવ્યા હોય એ જ તમને જતા જતા કહી જાય કે સર, એ દિવસે જો તમે જવા દીધો હોત તો હજી અટવાતો જ હોત. અભિમાનથી કહી શકીએ છી...
